Family History
I have been working on both of our family's history. I have subscribed to Ancestry on line, which has been very helpful. I was also lucky enough to have scored my paternal grandmother's maternal mother's family Bible. It wasn't updated since my great great uncle Stephen passed in 1931. For that matter, my grandparent's marriage isn't in it.
Due to the information in the Bible, I have tracked my paternal grandmother's family back to at least 1812. I have to decide if Ezekiel and Chlory Burgefs became Burgess later in life and if they (E&C) are the parents of Edwin (who appears to be my great great grandfather and his second wife my great great grandmother Frankie). They would have been my grandmother Rafferty's grandparents. Edwin was married previously to Diantha, I can find no record of any children and she passed in July, 1863. Edwin remarried in Dec, 1863 and proceeded to have 3 children by Carrie. Guess men didn't mourn too long back then. He was 25 years older than she. Ewww.
If Ezekiel and Chlory are my relatives, I have tracked back to the 1700s. The paternal side came from Ireland so I have to try and figure them out. I am sure there aren't very many John Rafferty's in Ireland. What a chore that might be. I will probably have to begin ordering death certificates and see who John's parents were.
My cousin was doing quite a bit on his paternal side (my maternal family). I am more of an equal opportunity searcher, I want to know all my relatives on both sides. I wouldn't mind a good jail story or two.
