I belong to a Red Hat Society (and yes, I am THAT old). Since sometime last year, I have been "activities" person, I find the place to go for lunch, make the reservations (difficult when a bunch of grown women can't RSVP so I can tell the restaurant how many to expect), send ou the notices via e-mail and try and keep track of who might be coming. There is a Queen Mother of this group who used to do this. We were a rather large group, justified by not everyone comes every month so it is ok. We have to pay an annual fee of $35.00 to the National Red Hat Society and for that fee we get 20 membership cards (anymore it is $1.00 each). There was discussion that we should only get the 20 and give them only to the people who come regularly. There was also discussion about if someone does not attend a meeting one time in 6 months, they would be dropped from the rolls. No one would be sending out emails that are ignored, no phone calls to the computer-less. This would open up more spots for people who want to come.

Therefore, I have been asking for the sign in sheets so that I could figure out who is or isn't coming. I reported all goings on via email so that everyone knew. At the Christmas Party, I was told I was getting custody of the sign in sheets but haven't seen a one yet (and was told that she can't find them).

It had been talked about among a few about rotating positions. It wasn't until I sent an email spelling out that all positions could be rotated if that is what the group wants did the Queen bother to respond to an email, up in arms over what has been proposed. She had noted on her RSVP for this month's lunch that I wasn't the "mommy type". She doesn't call herself Queen, she calls her self mommy. She is not my mommy, my mommy is dead. GRRR. Buttons being pushed all over. Danger, Will Robinson, danger.

I have to respond to the email and I've got to do it without those buttons staying on. I am unclear about what her responsibilities are. If it is to desseminate information, she is not doing that at all. At the Holiday Party, she said that there was something coming up in Feb. but she did not bring it with her. But she did not send out the information later either. There goes another button.

At the same party, a woman who had only been to 1 meeting, came to the party. Next thing I know, she has one of the coveted membership cards (hasn't paid one cent in dues). We have long time members who haven't gotten their membership cards. Several buttons going off. Danger, danger, lights flashing, husband running away, far away.

Sigh. This is not a group that has jelled well.
