When I last left you fair readers, we were in Missoula, having completed the first of many hours on the back of the bike. It was still cool in the morning, that was wonderful. Then the heat got turned on. High heat. We are staying in a collage dorm. I didn't think no air conditioning would be an issue. It is.
We did not do much our first night in Billings. For a college campus, they don't seem to have the correct number of bars surrounding the college campus. We did find a place to eat w/in a couple of blocks of the dorm.
The next morning we were up and out by 6:15 am heading to the Black Hills of South Dakota. I am thinking hills, cool. Not. We were stuck 90 for quite sometime and it just kept getting hotter and hotter, even going 80-85 mph. We cut off at Gillette to take a smaller road into Custer. I finally got to see me some wildlife - antelope - and many of them. Even saw some Buffalo or bison.
We went to the Crazy Horse Memorial first. You can see what is done for quite a ways before you get there. In keeping with our whirlwind tour, we did not take the trolley up to the base. Did get some pictures of the orig "prototype". Now it is really hot.
Back on the bike we go to get to Mt. Rushmore. There is only one place you can see the faces w/o paying the car fee of 8.00 - the tag is good for the rest of the year. Don't think we will be coming back this year. It was a whirlwind, I took some pictures, passed on going up to the base again. Times a wasting - Sturgis is next.
This is the stretch of riding where were hit some rain. Other than stinging when you are going 60 mph, it was refreshing. I wouldn't let Mark check into the hotel first, I had priorities - Sturgis and the Tat.
Found Sturgis no problem. Not much of a town when it is not bike rally. Did get a couple of t-shirts and a shot glass but no tat. Back to Deadwood we go, check into the hotel. Mark is happy, they have wireless. I am happy, they have airr conditioning. We go out for dinner in Deadwood, win some money (I won the money which I promptly lost.
We get up the next morning and decide we are going to wait out the rain storm. I went to the casino, Lost some money amd then got even more than all of it back. We left, Mark go into a snit - I think I married a 2 year old. It usually doesn't work well for him since I refuse to engage with him while he is showing his ass. More antelopes and a couple deer possibilities - the other deer I had seen were not doing so well on the side of the road. It was so hot we were miserable. I am looking at the other GoldWings, no helmet, shorts, why am I wearing all this? Safety does not to always be first.
We registered for WingDing. Now it was time to find the tat people. I'd been to Sturgis, I have lost over 25 pounds (I had promised myself a tat for getting rid of the weight. I am well on my way to 50 which s/ mean another tat. I have heard once you get one you keep getting more. I think I have the bug - I want a seperate set for the weight.
I am surprised, the tat did not hurt as much as I thought it would. It is a shamrock on my inner arm. Mark documented, once we get home, pictures will soon follow.
We then stopped and had dinner in this fancy smancy steakhouse. We decided the bar menu would work out much better for us. Enter 1 oxy. Add 1 gin and tonic. Come back to the dorm (where it was hot) and took the nightly sleep aids and came down to the computer lab. Where I promptly feel asleep. Had quite the buzz on, went back to the room and ate my leftover dinner.
Today was opening day. Bought quite a bit of stuff - will test the wicking shirts tomorrow when we go to Yellowstone. I have booked a tour tomorrow night to see some wild life - I still want to see a moose.
Must go finish the laundry so that I can get ready for bed. It will be nice to get home from our vacation so that we can reat.
We then went out to dinner at a rather spendy place. We ate in the bar.
