chelelev: (Amish getting gas)
[personal profile] chelelev

I am going to put the information I just got from [livejournal.com profile] lesliepear in one place.  Pass it on.

know we haven't heard from many of you due to all the power failures
across the state of Mississippi and Louisiana.

I have been contacted by AKC and they are on standby to help all of
us in our time of need. Issues aside, we need all the help we can
get. They are just waiting to hear from us. They have plenty of
resources to help us with.

So, if anyone hears from any of our rescuers in the southern part of
Lousiana and Mississippi please have them contact me at once. I
believe if we all work together and help coordinate the relief
through this group as well as with the AKC, MSPetlaw and
Mississippi Canine Coalition, Inc. and along with the American Red
Cross.

My cell number is 662-416-1392. That is the only way I can be
reached.

Also please note that the BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo, MS is set up
as a shelter for American Red Cross. (662-841-6573) We are also able
to take in animals. The Lee County Agricenter is set up for horses
as well as the Ag centers in Prentiss County and in Corinth, MS.

Hello All,

We have quite a few (about 30 families and growing ) hurricane victims staying at our hotel and it is heart breaking to see how they have been affected. They are all so humble and are so thankful for any help they can get. We are trying to do what we can do to help, so I came up with an idea. We are having a FREE Garage Sale for the Hurricane victims at our hotel on Friday at 1pm. If you have any items (clothes, toys, food, kitchen stuff, blankets, pillows, etc. - ANYTHING) laying around the house, please bring it to the Residence Inn Park Central by noon on Friday. We will also be having another one on Tuesday at 1pm also. Any one attending the Garage sale will have to present an out of State license for admittance

Please help us help the Victims of Hurricane Katrina. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Drop Off Time: Anytime between Now and Friday 12 pm for 1pm FREE Garage Friday or By Tuesday at 12 pm for 1 pm FREE Garage Sales Tuesday Please pass this to anyone who you think may be able to help. If you would like to help, we would love to have you. Thank you in advance for your support.

For animals left behind:

If you know anyone who had to leave their animals behind, please tell them they can write to hurricane@bestfriends.org (@bestfriends.org)
or call 435.644.3965 ext.4455 and leave the following information:

Name and current contact information
Address where animal was left
Name of pet
Description of pet (species, breed, distinguishing characteristics)
Photo if available.

Best Friends will get this information to emergency command posts in the hope of getting to these houses and getting the animals out.

Evacuees:

There is a pet shelter at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, right next to the Cajundome. Evacuees may bring their pets their for housing. We have PLENTY of food, water, crates, cages, bedding and newspaper. BUT the owners are responsible for feeding, watering, walking and medicating their own pets. Interested parties may call Lafayette Parish Animal Control at: 337-291-5644 for more information.

The Memphis Shelby County Humane Society is compiling a list of people who would be available to "foster" a dog or cat for an undetermined amount of time. Some people may find relatives to stay with outside of Memphis so the stay may be short, however some people may be here for a couple of weeks. Please call the Humane Society (901-276-7770)

Purrever Ranch is compiling a list of people who would foster pet(s) in the Collierville, Germantown (Shelby County TN) area. Purrever Ranch is collecting unused/open medications & prescription diet food to take to nearby shelters housing hurricane animals. Also, if anyone is interested in providing relief work at any of these local shelters, please contact me.

Some Texas shelter info:

Plenty of room for people in Austin, Texas at a Red Cross shelter. Food, water, computers set up.

Any evacuees can contact The Texas Department of Health and Human Services who will give them 2 months of Food Stamps with no questions asked. All they need to show is a drivers license. This agency will also give you information and locations where they can receive FREE GAS. Also, if you are housing anyone from one of these states you can call FEMA at (800) 621-3362 file a claim and receive assistance for your help. This is valid information directly from TDHHS.

National Guard radio:

For anybody that's interested, you can load the free winamp lite program from www.winamp.com and then use the "play URL" option to listen to the national guard channel being broadcast on http://216.22.26.45:8002/listen.pls

In case anyone wants to send stuff, I inquired what they needed:

Leslie, "heat and eat" foods such as chili, stews, ready to eat things as
well. Bottled water also. I know people want to send food items and its
expensive enough to mail But another alternative is monetary. We can
purchase a case of beef stew (24 cans) for $9.54 delivered to our doors.
Even less when we buy more. We normally spend $250,000 dollars a year for
these products to serve our community under NORMAL circumstances. Needless
to say, normal does not count anymore. So, just an alternative.
You can call our main number 318-675-2400 for more information.
Thanks so much.
