The latest saga
Nov. 20th, 2005 07:37 amI woke up yesterday feeling so so. I took all my morning pills which included some diabetes medicine that has never made me nausous. I was so sick, coughing but couldn't throw up. I finally called the Dr. on call and asked him to call in my nausia meds so I could feel better. When I couldn't get a bloor sugar reading (I couldn't get my blood to feed), he told me to go to the ER.
So there I was, in the ER in my nightgown, socks and berks, wet hair (believe me, I don't leave home without doing my hair, esp. in the winter where it won't curl), my large pee bag on my lap and a winter coat. It took 4 tries to be able to get an IV in, my veins kept collasping. The two nurses at this point were wonderful. They pushed some anti-nausua meds (2 different kinds and some pain meds since I was getting a headache from the meds) and finally some saline. My nice nurses changed over and I got Richland's version of the Nurse from Hell in CooKoos Nest. She ganked on my gown to get the blood presser cuff around (hello, ask me, even as sick as I am, I would make an attempt to make it easier for you), she is the one who finally started pushing the saline. I so wanted Nurse CJ who would put is hand on my shoulder with little pats to make me feel better. I liked that. I finally got feeling a little better and they offered me to stay the night and again I opted for home. I have better cable TV and Day-Day kitty was right there with me.
I actually got some chicken noodle soup down, some Lt. cranberry (less the vanilla vodka) and some water. Not feeling like running a marathon but not nearly as bad as I did. I have a 'cript for anti-nausa meds, I will fill it on Monday if I think I need something. Worse case is that I can fax the script in to the pharmacy and get it delivered if I think driving is an issue. I am not supposed to drive for over a week but I have 2 Dr. appoints Tuesday and Mark is working. I have to be able to turn the wheel with no pain. I am more worried about shifting and braking with a cat stuck up me.
All my nurses and CNAs were wonderful on the floor. I will have to take goodies to them on different days so I catch everyone. I think Peggy is Tues-Thurs nights, Laura was Thurs-Friday days (at least those are the days I remember), Friday can be a split shift so I had another good nurse late Friday afternoon. The CNAs were so good to me too. Either lots of boxes of chocolates or if I get this bag removed on Tuesday, I can bake cookies. I will be delivering this week and next week.
At some point while there my kidneys/bladder kicked in and I was moving some fluid. It has slowed down considerably at home and I am pushing fluids. Don't know what is it about being in the hospital setting that makes them stand up and do their job. I wasn't looking forward to what they would have to do to get my kidneys back in gear.

Date: 2005-11-20 07:38 pm (UTC)The way people get sick in the hospital, you're probably much better off at home, even with having to make trips back there. You are so sweet to already be thinking of gifts for the nurses and assistants even though you're still recuperating! Hang in there. I'm sending many healing vibes out there to Washington. (I think Nurse Ratchet was from Oregon, so maybe she just moved.)
