I so want to be in Washington DC

As many of you know I do not support the war in Iraq (have no problem with Afghanistan) but I always support those you are being sent there. I don't like that if I attend a Support the Troops rally, people assume that I support the war too. Big difference. It is two separate things. I also don't like the quick reaction of if you don't like the way the country is being run, you can leave. I think they missed that part of American history, the people have the right to challenge the decisions of the administration. I am old enough to remember the week long moratorium in Washington DC in 1972 that helped bring an end to our involvement in the Viet Nam war. I had two class trips to DC that week so had fun marching with those commie hippies. We joined a sit in in our current congressman's office.
So today is the March for Peace in DC. It is not just Iraq that have people up in arms, it is the slow response to Katrina. Blanco had written a letter to the feds asking them for all their help and to send everything they got. Some like to say she didn't ask for the troops so that is why they didn't come. There continue to be reports that FEMA turned away a Red Cross truck filled with water and ice. The Red Cross was ready to go in once the storm stopped but they were turned away. People came with boats (after they requested them) and then they wouldn't let them put the boats in the water so that they can rescue people. It does go to show you that everyone rises to their level of incompetence. We are having a little march here at 5 this afternoon. Must dig out my Bush Lied, People Died sign.
At least they have learned a lesson and have things ready to mobilize for Rita. Lets hope Barbara Bush stays out of the shelters so she doesn't have to see the poor people and thinking living in the Astrodome is a step up from living in their houses.
The march is on CSPAN. There will be a rally for military families Sunday at 1 est. I assume that will also be on CSAN. Often the families don't get the props that they should. I've done it, it is not easy. I learned how to fix a hot water heater during one of the deployments, I learned to who bother when the allotment was wrong and I had no money, it was with Mark on the ship. Not afraid to write the captain about it. We did make a friend that we ran into almost 12 years later in Bremerton. He really remembered Mark, not sure if that is from Mark losing his temper or not. If there is anything that can go wrong, it will go wrong as soon as the carrier left the pier. I feel for the reserves who had to give up their well paying jobs, leave for at least a year and the families have to survive on the low pay that the military gets.
Must to off to fake and bake, Costco (Saturday, I must be insane) for kitty litter, the Sopranos latest DVDs, peanut butter cookies that taste just like the ones the Girl Scouts sell, and anything else that strikes my fancy. The freezers are full of the food I brought back from NY so have to stay out of the frozen food section. Tonight's dinner is left over red beans and rice. I make so much so that Mark can take it to work. I do have to stop and the drug store and get some bandages designed for burns. They are supposed to not stick (if they do, you just get them wet and then they don't stick). I have tried everything for this leg. Non-stick bandages, they stick. Spray on bandage, still oozes out. The burn bandages are my last shot. Either that or I don't take a shower for the next month while this thing heals so that the scab doesn't dissolve in the water.
