As many of you know I do not support the war in Iraq (have no problem with Afghanistan) but I always support those you are being sent there. I don't like that if I attend a Support the Troops rally, people assume that I support the war too. Big difference. It is two separate things. I also don't like the quick reaction of if you don't like the way the country is being run, you can leave. I think they missed that part of American history, the people have the right to challenge the decisions of the administration. I am old enough to remember the week long moratorium in Washington DC in 1972 that helped bring an end to our involvement in the Viet Nam war. I had two class trips to DC that week so had fun marching with those commie hippies. We joined a sit in in our current congressman's office.

So today is the March for Peace in DC. It is not just Iraq that have people up in arms, it is the slow response to Katrina. Blanco had written a letter to the feds asking them for all their help and to send everything they got. Some like to say she didn't ask for the troops so that is why they didn't come. There continue to be reports that FEMA turned away a Red Cross truck filled with water and ice. The Red Cross was ready to go in once the storm stopped but they were turned away. People came with boats (after they requested them) and then they wouldn't let them put the boats in the water so that they can rescue people. It does go to show you that everyone rises to their level of incompetence. We are having a little march here at 5 this afternoon. Must dig out my Bush Lied, People Died sign.

At least they have learned a lesson and have things ready to mobilize for Rita. Lets hope Barbara Bush stays out of the shelters so she doesn't have to see the poor people and thinking living in the Astrodome is a step up from living in their houses.

The march is on CSPAN. There will be a rally for military families Sunday at 1 est. I assume that will also be on CSAN. Often the families don't get the props that they should. I've done it, it is not easy. I learned how to fix a hot water heater during one of the deployments, I learned to who bother when the allotment was wrong and I had no money, it was with Mark on the ship. Not afraid to write the captain about it. We did make a friend that we ran into almost 12 years later in Bremerton. He really remembered Mark, not sure if that is from Mark losing his temper or not. If there is anything that can go wrong, it will go wrong as soon as the carrier left the pier. I feel for the reserves who had to give up their well paying jobs, leave for at least a year and the families have to survive on the low pay that the military gets.

Must to off to fake and bake, Costco (Saturday, I must be insane) for kitty litter, the Sopranos latest DVDs, peanut butter cookies that taste just like the ones the Girl Scouts sell, and anything else that strikes my fancy. The freezers are full of the food I brought back from NY so have to stay out of the frozen food section. Tonight's dinner is left over red beans and rice. I make so much so that Mark can take it to work. I do have to stop and the drug store and get some bandages designed for burns. They are supposed to not stick (if they do, you just get them wet and then they don't stick). I have tried everything for this leg. Non-stick bandages, they stick. Spray on bandage, still oozes out. The burn bandages are my last shot. Either that or I don't take a shower for the next month while this thing heals so that the scab doesn't dissolve in the water.

I'm not in DC and it's pissing me off - but I can't bitch about it in my own journal 'cause it's one of my best friends who's fucked the day up for me. She was supposed to change the oil in my bike and check the sparkplugs and just do some stuff that I can't. Over a month ago she asked if I had the supplies and she's been unable to get her ass to my place to do it. Now she's going on vacation. I told her weeks ago that I really want this done before the MS walk ('cause I'm motorcycle crew). She seemed fine with it. Then more excuses. No, she can't do Sunday 'cause she's leaving for vacation. Maybe Saturday. Last night she said she'd be here at 10:00. So I figure I'll go to the event in the afternoon. Well, she's running late. If she had just said she couldn't I wouldn't have spent all day waiting. Yes, I'm dyeing stuff, but nothing that couldn't have waited. GRUMBLE. Now, she STILL hasn't said she's not coming.

I hope the event is going well though I suspect it'll get lost in the news because of Rita. Sigh. I hope the friend I was going to meet didn't get arrested.

I marched in Washington when King George the first was in office. The deal was that if I missed the bus back home, I was to go to South Africas consulant or whatever since they would have you arrested ifor being on the steps protesting. Then I was to call home with my one phone call and catch the train the next morning. Figure I would have a place to sleep and maybe get breakfast before heading home.

Well, that's planning it. Hee. But still a good thing you didn't miss the bus!

My friend has a show tonight, so she better not have gotten arrested.

Oh - and that is SO not good if you're talking about the leg you injured when you were taking the course. OWIE!! I guess I'm lucky that I only got bruises (well, and a cracked breastbone). Roadrash SUCKS. Treating it like a burn sounds like a good idea! Hope the new bandages help.

It is the "jean burn" that continues to ooze. It is getting smaller but it is still taking a while to heal. It doesn't help that it oozes when I am asleep, sticks to the sheet and I rip off any scab when I move my leg.

I figure the burn bandages wouldn't hurt. At least nothing dripped down my leg today while I was in Costco. Usually it does.

ooooooooh ouch a jean burn... I'm not sure how bad yur's is, but when I went horseback riding it rained and my jeans got soaked and I was rubbing against the leather saddle and lets just say oooooouch major chaffing....
I once got like all the skin scraped off both my forearms with a pumice stone (long story). And that was oozing for at least a week before it started to scab over. oh my god were those hot showers hell. During the day and night I had then wrapped in bandages and that REALLY helped by cushioning it, but as you said, if you move the bandage it rips the scab which hurts like hell.
I ended up dabbing the wounds for an entire weekend, doing nothing else, with a cool, damp cloth. It helps, but the towel gets really nasty.
Other than that, all I can say is best of luck and you may have to just tough it out.
BTW, My arms fully scabbed over 4 times, and took 2 months to completely heal. Luckily it didn't really scar though.
But man was that a painful 2 months of my life. Plus I had to wear long sleeves so I wouldn't get wierd looks.

This is not chafing, this is several layers of skin removed from my leg (not to mention I lost my tan in that area). It will scab over than some more fluid will build up underneath and begin the ooze again. When I take a shower, it fills up with fluid and oozes all day. Not to mention that if I move my leg in a different way, it breaks open. I have had "rug burns" before, they were nothing compared to this. When it first happened, it was an area over 4x4 inches. It is gradually getting smaller but not fast enough. I am diabetic so I do not heal quickly. Wearing jeans will rub the scab off.

I so want to change my sheets but not while I am still oozing.

eeek.
my "burn" was about 3"x12" on each arm.
sounds like the same sort of thing.
Good luck.

A friend of my MIL and her boyfriend went. I'm impressed (we are an anti-bush bunch) but going to a big march like that isn't practical for us now.

I'll have to find out second hand how the march went.
