Boise State
Jan. 2nd, 2007 03:46 pmI usually don't watch bowl games unless I have a vested interest of some sort in one of the teams. I suppost Penn State, UofW and WSU since we live in Washington now.
I am sorry I missed the Fiesta Bowl, I have seen the highlights. I am watching the team being welcomed home on NWCN. They reported that thousands of kids hit downtown last night, not one incident or arrest. Thousands more showed up to yell at buses bringing the team, coaches, band, etc. back. Over 20 kids on the team are "home grown" and from Idaho.
The debate begins that should Boise State with a 13-0 record be the nation's number one team? I seem to remember this debate happens every year at this time. Boise is not the caliber of say Ohio State but since they don't play each other, and any given team can win on any given day, maybe they could beat OSU.
I am just getting caught up in the hoopla. Really, I just wanted to see what the pass should be like tomorrow and how early I would need to leave to make sure I get to work on time. I'll have to stop and get an energy drink at some point so that I can make it until 2 am. I took off early Sunday night and don't need less hours this pay period.

Date: 2007-01-03 06:54 pm (UTC)And really? Considering the Sooners turned the ball over to Boise FIVE times during the game and yet they still needed overtime in order to win? That doesn't speak of greatness on the part of Boise State. With those kinds of turnovers, they should have won that game handily and by at least three touchdowns. Yet they didn't. Oklahoma, playing like crap and giving them the ball and still....overtime was needed for the Boise win. (and don't get me wrong... the Sooners didn't deserve to win with the way they played)
Was it a Cinderella story for Boise State? Absolutely! I got all teary at the end of the game when the football player proposed to the cheerleader. It was super sweet. But to confuse this team's luck, with greatness is a mistake on the part of the sportscasters who covered the game. The fact of the matter is this team, even with a 13-0 record, did not have the same schedule (in terms of challenging teams played) as many of the other teams who are *up* for the National Championship.
What the press has failed to mention is exactly what you said.....any given team can win on any given day and when it comes to the Fiesta Bowl? That's exactly what happened.
That's my two cents worth which isn't much.....
