I knew this was going to happen.

We have incredible news to share! The Honorable Senator John McCain will appear at the Buffalo Chip on Monday, August 4th, just before performances by Kelly Pickler and Kid Rock. Senator McCain will be participating in the Chip's annual ceremony in honor of American servicemen and veterans.

We are indescribably proud, honored and humbled that Senator McCain will join the bikers at the Chip. We understand the Secret Service will have the Senator on the Chip's stage at 7:30 pm. Please plan to return home to the Chip early on Monday and stay tuned as we develop plans to permit as many servicemen and veterans as possible to participate in this historic event.

The following is the release the PR department sent to the press:
Sen. John McCain to appear at Buffalo Chip's Veterans Tribute
Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican Party nominee for President of the United States will participate in the annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground on Monday Aug. 4 during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

"We are honored that a patriot of Senator McCain's stature would take time during his Presidential campaign to help us honor our veterans and active duty military personnel," said campground owner Rod Woodruff. "We can think of no better example of the courage, sacrifice, integrity and sense of duty embodied by the people who protect our freedom daily."
McCain Senior Advisor, Carla Eudy confirmed Thursday that the Senator would participate in the Chip's annual tribute.

The Buffalo Chip has for many years conducted the tribute. Past tributes have included The Patriot Guard Riders, The U.S. Army Golden Knights, B-1B fly-bys and numerous color guards and flag-folding ceremonies.
"We have for years been humbled to provide the Buffalo Chip stage to
honor the heroic service of great American patriots," Woodruff said.
"Sen. McCain's heroism has been an inspiration to all Americans. I know the freedom-loving bikers who join us each year at the Buffalo Chip will be extremely appreciative and honored by his participation in this year's tribute."

I am going to a motorcycle rally, not a political function.  Take time my ass, it is nothing more than an opportunity to try and get votes.

Where do the veterns that have a brain cell stand?  Sure as fuck will not be up in front with him.  I have no problem honoring our military but make it a non political statement.

Yeah, I'm just OMG AMAZED that a campaigning politician would do such a thing. *eyeroll*

I know, just showing up at an opportunity to honor vets in front of just a few people.

If they want to get me to participate, give me Obama on the stage with him. Then I would consider seriously if I was going to give up my free beer to go.

As the wife of a retired AF officer, I can assure you that John McCain has a long and distinguished history of visiting with active duty and veterans alike. It's not a ploy, it's who he is. His family has a tradition of military service going back several generations, and his son is currently enlisted in the Marine Corps (and has served in Iraq).

While you might not care for his political position, have no doubt he has always been sincere about supporting military vets and servicemen. He's done it for years and years.... it's something any military member can respect about him.

If it was not a ploy, why hasn't he ever shown up at Sturgis before this year? This tribute has been going on as long as the Buffalo Chip has been in existance.

I have a long line of military tradition in my family, that does not make us any better, does not mean than anyone has to be respect us.

I don't agree with him politically and not don't agree with him showing up this year of all years. He is turning it into a political event for that day he is there.
