I am behind again
Nov. 14th, 2005 05:58 amI don't think that I have mentioned at I was co-chair for our church's annual Christmas Bazaar (this is my second year). It is a lot of work, I did the flyers (looking for vendors and the publicity flyers), Barbara my co-chair sent out the letters to previous vendors, fielded phone calls from those wanting a table and made up the table chart.
It is not that much hard work until the 3 to 4 hours of hell when we are trying to set up and the vendors are coming in with their things. I just wanted to pull my hair out. I wanted around telling people that the happy pills are not working so beware. We had to mark off the spaces, move tables around, move the racks of chairs out into the hall. There is a day care that operates at one end of the room, you really have to wait for them to leave (at 6) before you can really get into working and moving. The 7th grade class helps with set up (ok, they sometimes are not that helpful!) and clean up. They also greet people at the door, give them the free raffle ticket and direct them to also visit the vendors in the library. For this, they get $200.00 to help pay for their camp. They also provide lunch (baked potato bar, a drink and a cookie or brownie for 4.00) as a fund-raiser too,
When the kids are at the door, there is supposed to be an adult watching them. She was must more concerned with watching what was going on at the bazaar and not what the kids were not doing. So I had to be out there riding herd on them. One boy didn't want to be there except if he could just come and distract his friends. At one point they all walked away and I am just going WTF? When we got some great kids who knew how to do it, followed directions and did a great job. Those kids were a pleasure to be around (and a parent was there). Mr. PIMA kept coming out to hang and I kept sending him back to the kitchen. I told him that he wasn't interested in doing this job this morning, he can't come out and hang with those who are doing a good job. He missed his opportunity to have a cushy job.
I was so tired Saturday night. We had been at the school since 3 in the afternoon Friday and them from 6:30 am to 4:15 pm on Saturday. And we are on our feet all day (you really don't want to sit down, you can never get back up). Every 1/2 hour we gave away a door prize so we had to be around for that.
There were no commercial vendors, everything was hand made. There were some lovely things and there were so ugly crap (which I am pretty sure didn't move). I got a beautiful wreath for the front door. It is so think that I think I will have to hang it inside the door (and that way, I can smell it too!) and a scarf (the fuzzy knit ones that I can't seem to make). I have an order for some soy based lotion but will get that after the surgery. I didn't buy as much this year, I do have a card for "my gardner's" SO who makes cushions that you can heat in the microwave (or freezer) to comfort. What makes hers different from what I have is that she scents them, a choice of mink, lavender and cinnamon. Very nice.
