I traveled cross country, I added a new state to my list of states I have been in, I came home with renewed incentive to toss all my shit out , talked to dead people and Longaberger underwhelmed me yet again.
I tied this trip in (as I always do) with a visit to the relatives (the ones I want to see). It was less expensive to fly into Columbus, Ohio than Syracuse, NY so Columbus had to become my base airport. I spent 4 days in Columbus being bored by the Longaberger Bee. While I like the new library table, until our life gets settled, I don't see me buying it anytime soon.
From Columbus, I drove to Syracuse to invade my cousin's boyfriend's house. David did make a mistake by giving me the garage door code! He was in Florida helping a friend sail a sloop back from the Keys so wasn't there went I got there. Charla (the cousin) was still at her place in the eastern part of NY (right near those green mountains of Vermont). It was nice to have a bit of quiet time before the dog and Charla came back. Each day it got hotter and hotter with humidity that you could cut with a knife. We went back to Granville on the hottest day. Charla does not have air conditioning and we spent two days visiting everyone she knew with air and a pool. I was surprised that I survived that. It was nice to get back to Syracuse where there was air conditioning.
We did go see her brother one day. Don B. has a special needs child and it was good to see that he had managed to step up to the plate with Donnie. I got a tour of her parent's old house which he has been organizing for the past 5 years. His father died 5 years ago and his mother had a stroke shortly thereafter. Various properties have been sold off and all the accumulation of crap has been crammed into the original house. That place screams intervention now. I will be tossing here.
I need meet a cousin from my father's side that I didn't know. She is my 4th cousin so it is not surprising that I never met her before. She has all the info on my father's mother's paternal line. Now if I could only figure out my father's father's line other than the dead end of Ireland.
During my visits with dead people (always interesting on who is buried by whom) I discovered a branch of my mother's linage that became Catholic, they are buried near my father's family and you had to be Catholic to get buried there, otherwise they tossed your over the fence to the heathen side. I found another ancestor who buriel site we had been looking for for quite some time. The mystery of Richard Partrick has been solved.
Vermont is the land of marble and cheaper gas than NY. I did pass up the opportunity to swin in the marble quarry. Went to the Orvis flagship store. LIke REI but more expensive and gearing towards fishing and hunting. I know there are some men who would be drooling over that opportunity. I didn't get it.
I need to unpack, do laundry and see if there is any food in this house that I can make for dinner. I also need to get Mark hired on with the crowd management group. We can work Dave Matthews together and spend a fun filled weekend camping in the "oh so quiet" Gorge campground.
