The Carl Vinson has left. This carrier was my husband's first sea going command and his last. The first time around was in San Francisco. I loved living there. We left there for Charleston, South Carolina in 1989. Went back to the Chucky V (as we called it) in 1995 and moved with the ship to Bremerton, Washington in 1997 (I was one of the last families to move, did not want to leave my "island". Mark left the command in 1998 for his final tour on shore duty. That ship holds a very special place in my heart. When 9/11 happened, this was the only carrier available in the Persian Gulf and the first strikes against Afganistan came from her flight deck.
This morning she left Bremerton for a round the world cruise and a 3 (give or take) time in the yards in Norfolk, Virginia.
