I finally finished my first quilt top yesterday. It is a quilt for the son of my estranged sister. Micheal is a little over 2 and the quilt is called Hungry Animals
http://www.afabricoasis.com/SSI-Animals.html. Each letter is almost an eye spy event. Within each letter are lots of things that begin with that letter. The Walrus is sitting in a wing back chair with wall paper, window showing winter, eating watermelon with a wicker heart.
Once I get the hosting location and things uploaded, I will post a picture. I added lots of things, embellishments if you were. I quilt the top of it today (using a special machine), that is where I will be combining the backing and batting with my completed top.
I added up the cost, about 75.00. Evil sister best let this child have this quilt. To prevent her from regifting, I am making my labels (Quilted by blah blah and Merry Christmas Michael, 2005) and putting them on the backing and quilting them in. She won't be able to remove the label and give it to someone else (not without having to explain). I would want my nephew to hold on to this and pass it down. Once he is bigger, she can make it into a wall hanging and he can continue to learn his ABCs and new words (how many kids know wing back chair?).
