The joys of job hunting

As you might remember, Mark is employed at the whim of the Department of Energy. The location will eventually close and the joy of that is that you don't know when DOE is about to pull the funding (and with the current asshat of an administration, it will be sooner rather than later, we live near the biggest toxic waste dump around). Because of not knowing when the next shoe will drop, I have been strongly encouraging him to start sending those resumes out. He did send one for a position in Virginia, I rolled and didn't push for the one in Hawaii but am calling out all the stops for the position outside Boston in Plymouth, Mass. There is a big city only a train ride away, I could find work in my chosen fields, what a novel concept. I think what is causing his reluctance is the housing costs (I have found some that does sound somewhat reasonable). Ok, while I would love to live in Boston, even I realize that 7K a month for a 9 bedroom house is out of our price range (but what I could do with 9 bedrooms!). For those who have any knowledge, is housing as bad as he thinks it is? Downside is not being able to find a daily newspaper that is not tied into SouthBoston.com. SouthBoston is more geared towards the northern that is South Boston rather than the real south of Boston, north of Cape Cod. I would't mind being in town of either Plymouth or Kingston (esp. if I could walk to the train station and not pay the parking fee on top of the commute costs, not looking forward to a long commute again). I am more excited over the prospect of living in the Boston area, just so much more to do than the Virginia job. I could get behind the Boston Red Sox (I already own a Yankees Suck t-shirt), the Celtics, the Bruins but never would I be able to get behind the NE Pats, that is just wrong.
On a more downer note, I begin the crap job next Wednesday. Great, first day of training and it is a fast day and Ash Wednesday. There was the Ash Wednesday a few years back where Mark thought of going to Micky D's and getting a cheeseburger and then the Seattle earthquake hit. He is not allowed to think of meat during Lent anymore.
